A new take on Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outer Space, just without the campness and parody? We've got a trailer right here...
Published on Sep 21, 2009
As the most famous of Edward D Wood Jr's movies, Plan 9 From Outer Space often gets namechecked as the worst film of all time. It's not (although it's still a fairly ropey movie), but it's certainly helped give the film a profile nearly 50 years after it was first made.
To mark the anniversary of it, however, a brand new independent remake has been in the works. Put together by Darkstone Entertainment, with John Johnson behind the camera, the idea of the ‘remake' is to do a "serious-minded retelling of the original story". The film's intentions are to pay homage to Plan 9 From Outer Space's spirit, but to take out the campness. To quote the remake's official website, the goal is "to make a film that honours not only the original source material, but also Ed Wood's intentions when he made Plan 9 From Outer Space". Thus, the focus is on science fiction and horror, rather than any kind of parody.
It's unclear as of yet when and if the film will be getting a cinema release, but nonetheless, a teaser trailer for it has been released. Take a look at it below, and see what you think...
