The A-Team fall into place

The A-Team’s casting plan finally comes together, as District 9’s Sharlto Copley becomes the latest to enlist…

Published on Sep 16, 2009

The final pieces of The A-Team casting jigsaw, after a process that seems to have gone on for a prolonged period of time, have finally fallen into place. It's thus full steam ahead for Fox's big screen version of the show, with the film set to start shooting in Canada before the end of the year.

Some pieces of casting have been known for some time, such as Liam Neeson taking the role of Hannibal, and Bradley Cooper has inked a deal to portray Face. In the last week or so, the iconic role of B.A. Baracus was also cast, with Quinton ‘Rampage' Jackson signed up to step where Mr T trod before.

That just left the role of Murdock out of the Team's four main members to cast, and for Sharlto Copley, he seemingly couldn't have had a hit at a better time (the same, of course, could be said for Bradley Cooper with The Hangover). Copley was the lead in Neill Bloomkamp's surprise late summer hit District 9, and his terrific central performance in that has put him firmly on Fox's radar. As such, Variety now reports that he's locked in to play Murdock. Thus, the Team is finally complete.

Also on the casting call sheet, there's Patrick Wilson (from Watchmen), who'll be playing a CIA operative, and Jessica Biel, who will turn up as one of Face's old flames.

The film is reportedly going to remove some of the daftness from the TV series, and is heading before the cameras under the watchful eye of director Joe Carnahan. Carnahan, who was once upon a time cited as a director for Mission: Impossible III, already has the outstanding Narc on his resume, as well as the mad-as-a-box-of-frogs Smoking Aces (although he didn't direct the sequel, which is currently in post-production).

The A-Team is set for release on 11 June 2010 in the US, and it'll then arrive in the UK on 30th July.

Phew...at least it wasn't Jim Carrey. That would have been awful. Oh, and not to be picky, but it's Murdock with a "k" and not a "h". Don't want to seem pedantic, but you know how us "geeks" are.

@ Campbellsoup. I dunno Jim Carrey could make a decent Murdock but it would take a strong script and hard director to get him to do it, although I would be worried the studio would want him just to turn his dial to 11 and go OTT. Sharlto is an interesting choice and I am keen to see what he will make of it... Really thou I think its going to be the script and director that either make or break this movie.

Well said, cordas! I'm so on the fence with this one. I want to like it but in my heart, no one can replace Mr. T. I have hope though and I will more than likely go to see it, even if I rage hard at it.

Mr T. is gonna be the trickiest character to get right, I agree, this film could go either way.

Murdock? From this geeks perspective I think Steve Carell could pull it off. Im not liking Hannibal. It seems that all of the good tough guys are dead or too old. Im not buying Liam Neeson, although I love him as an actor (taken was AWESOME!). Maybe they could cross racial lines and go with a Ving Rhames. Say what you want but what I remember the most about Hannibal was that he didn't take shit but could still be charming.
