If you're any kind of a geek, you're a Bruce Campbell fan, or you've learned to keep quiet about the fact that you're not. DoG loves Bruce Campbell, so we're delighted to hear that he's being promoted from the walk-on parts he has always aced in buddy Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies.

Having been 'ring announcer' (Spider-Man), 'Snooty Usher' (Spider-Man 2) and 'Maître d’' (Spider-Man 3), Campbell has told Access Hollywood that he is to have a more substantial part in the fourth entry in the block-busting superhero franchise. The report states that Campbell, who was on hand for the premiere of Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, doesn't know yet what his part is to be, only that it will be substantial. There's wild speculation that Campbell might crop up in Spidey 4 as Mysterio, Master Of Illusion, but if Campbell genuinely doesn;t know, it seems unlikely anyone else does yet.

Campbell is at the core of the extended Raimi 'family' that crop up, to the great pleasure of fans, wherever Mr. R has a hand in things. Having accompanied Raimi to fame (and a little infamy) with the Evil Dead movies of the 1980s, he was also a regular in the Xena/Hercules TV cycles that Raimi co-produced for TV.

Principal photography on Spider-Man 4 begins in January, and the film has a May 2011 release date.
