Nicolas Cage departs The Green Hornet

Simon Brew

The Green Hornet is looking for a new villain, as Nicolas Cage decides that he won’t be doing battle…

Published on Sep 9, 2009

After a bumpy road, where speculation was rife at one point that the whole project had been abandoned, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's big screen adaptation of The Green Hornet is now before the cameras. Under the stewardship of director Michel Gondry, The Green Hornet's cast currently has in its ranks Rogen himself in the title role, along with Cameron Diaz, the mighty Edward James Olmos, Jay Chou and Tom Wilkinson.

But it doesn't seem to have Nicolas Cage on board anymore. Cage was widely reported to be playing the villain of the piece, and while there was never formal word that he'd signed on the dotted line, it all seemed to be a done deal. Apparently, no footage with Cage has been shot for The Green Hornet and he's not involved the project. Whether he was on board for a period of time and then departed for some reason remains to be seen. Might that second Ghost Rider movie be closer than we first thought, we wonder?

Moviehole reports that the role Cage was supposed to play, however, wasn't a large one (maybe we're talking something akin to Eric Bana in Star Trek?), and work is inevitably afoot to bring a new face in to do battle with Rogen's Hornet. We'd expect, given that the shoot is underway, to be hearing further news on this story sooner rather than later...

Just you... Raising Arizona Leaving Las Vegas Face/Off The Rock And in my opinion, both National Treasure films beat the pants off the latest indy offering.

saying that national treasure is better than the latest indy offering is like saying death by drowning is better than death by decapitation, at the end of the day, you still die.

"Might that second Ghost Rider movie be closer than we first thought, we wonder?" Oh hell no, that would be like beating a dead horse, literally!!

I agree with matimage: I loved the National Treasure films. Just because they were blockbusters doesn't mean they weren't fun and exciting fantasy films. Even at their campiest, I thought it worked better for them than Indy4. I think it just depends on the project when it comes to Nicholas Cage; there are some films I can't stand him in and others where he makes the perfect hero/villian. He is capable of an incredible range but sometimes it seems like he doesn't care to show it.

Cage has been in good movies before...they just predominately pre-date 2000. A second Ghost Rider movie should never be allowed to be made, for the sake of all humanity...oh, and both National Treasure movies were as bad as Sahara.
