Release date set for TRON legacy

The Mouse lets us know when we can rez-up again for the much-anticipated sequel to the 1982 cult film...

TRON fans, set this date in your calendar (you'll have to skip ahead a fair bit): December 17th 2010. This is when we will finally get to see the sequel to Steven Lisberger's TRON, 28 years after the original tale of virtual adventure failed to set the box-office alight, but began the slow smoulder into cultdom.
Legacy is written by Lost's Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, together with Richard Jefferies. First-timer Joseph Kosinski helms the piece, which features Michael Sheen, Olivia Wilde, John Hurt and Jeff Bridges (reprising his original role as Kevin Flynn).
The plot finds the son (played by Garrett Hedlund) of the original Jeff Bridges character investigating his father's disappearance shortly after the end of the 1982 movie. Turns out Bridges has been trapped in the digital world for 25 years, and it's up to sonny-boy to go in, face some familiar (and no doubt some new) challenges and see if he can't spring Pop and save the day.
Not every new action/SF release is an obvious candidate for 3D, but I would argue that the producers have done well to arrange IMAX 3D for Legacy, the trailer for which suggests something both 'retro' and utterly spectacular.
