Paul W. S. Anderson tackling 3D 'Musketeers'

Don't sit too near the screen, those things'll have your eye out...

Genre director Paul W.S. Anderson is switching from horror and action to period drama with a 3D adaptation of The Three Musketeers.
Having read Alexander Dumas' original, I find it a bit upsetting that anyone is trying once again to make a movie out of this truly epic and hilarious book, which only TV really has the scope for (though it lacks the money).
I haven't counted the previous versions, but Twitch reckons that Anderson's take on d'Artagnan's journeyman adventures will be the 22nd.
The problem with making Musketeers into a two hour movie is that all the stuff in the book which explains how much fun d'Artagnan, Athos, Porthos and Aramis have, and why they are such good mates, hardly ever makes the script due to the huge press of plot-points that have to be covered.
Arguably Richard Lester took the best approach in the 1970s by splitting the book into two movies under the aegis of the Salkinds, who later did as much for Superman.
Certainly all those pokey swords are going to look extra-pokey in 3D, anyway, if you really care.
Wonder if Milla Jovovich will be Milady?
