Steampunk or horsepunk? Downey Jr. to team up with native Americans to fight off the alien hordes...

Iron Man collaborators director Jon Favreau and actor Robert Downey Jr. are to continue their association with Favreau's next project, according to HR, an adaptation of the comic Cowboys & Aliens.
The Platinum Studios Comics graphic novel from Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley finds traditional antagonists cowboys and indians forced to team up when extraterrestrials decide to start their planetary invasion from Arizona in the 1850s.
The film adaptation has been in the works since 1997, when Steve Oedekerk was on board as writer/director, before Sahara writers Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Donnellytook a crack at it with Columbia. Downey Jr. has been attached to the latest Dreamworks attempt at the project since last year.
