It's taking a while to put together a script for a fourth adventure for Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, not helped by the fact that the first person hired for the job, George Nofti - who did script work on The Bourne Ultimatum - is working on another project at the same time. Nofti is involved in adapting a Philip K Dick story for the big screen, The Adjustment Bureau, which he also plans to direct (and also has the interest of Matt Damon). And it's the time scales on the project that's led Universal to call for another writer for Bourne 4.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a parallel script is now being written, this time by Josh Zetumer. The plan here is to keep development on the fourth Bourne movie moving - which isn't even loosely based on a Robert Ludlum book this time! - with Universal looking to have the film in cinemas for the summer of 2011.

Then, it idea is that Nofti will return to the project once he's done with The Adjustment Bureau. Zetumer, meanwhile, is the man who wrote the script for the version of Dune that Peter Berg has been trying to get off the ground, and appears to be regarded as one of Hollywood's brightest rising writers.
