"What kind of animal could have done such a thing?"

Yesterday, Universal couldn't really have picked a worse day to tell the world that The Wolfman trailer was coming. With the planet seemingly on tenterhooks for a trailer for James Cameron's Avatar - that subsequently didn't seem to impress too many people - out came our first real glimpse of the much-delayed new working of one of its classic properties.

Starring Benicio del Toro in the title role, and directed by Jurassic Park 3/Rocketeer/Honey I Shrunk The Kids/Jumanji helmer Joe Johnston, the film has had, at the last time of counting, its release date shunted three times, and that inevitably had led to suspicions that all is not well. Universal has countered this by arguing that it's had problems sorting out the effects work. And now we get some kind of glimpse of the finished product.

Bizarrely, we have to wait until 12th February - two days before Valentine's Day! - to find out what the finished product is like. But this trailer really looks quite decent, save for perhaps one ropey-ish effect near the end.

Maybe the film will turn out to be pretty good after all?
