Geek shows and movies on UK TV in the coming week

We're heading into the slow, sputtering wind down of summer just before the new season of shows revs up, but there's still plenty of petrol left in a few programs before then.

Tonight's episode of True Blood is Cold Ground, in which Sookie Stackhouse has a lot of recovering to do. Will the world of vamps give her room to breathe and space to grieve? Find out at 10:00pm or the late showing at five past midnight on FX.

Later in the week, Doctor Who Greatest Moments shifts the spotlight to The Companions at 8:00pm Thursday, 27 August on BBC3.

That same evening at 10:35pm, a few channels away on BBC 1, Annie meets another un-solid in the ethereal, but less than heavenly shape of ghostly Gilbert on Being Human. The unlikely pair try to sort out their places in the world in a flat shared with a squeaky-voiced werewolf and a vampire wobbling on the wagon.
