Tom Hanks stars, Steven Spielberg directs, and now Joel and Ethan Coen are wrting a new Cold War drama...

One of Steven Spielberg's upcoming directorial projects already had something of a heavyweight feel to it. In addition to Spielberg himself, Tom Hanks is set to star in the new film, which is set in and around the Cold War. It's based on the true story of James Donovan, who had the job in 1962 of negotiating with Russia for the release of Francis Gary Powers. Powers was a pilot whose U-2 spy plane was shot down over Russia.

Hanks is set to play Donovan, reuniting him with Spielberg after projects such as Saving Private Ryan and Catch Me If You Can. Meanwhile, it's now been revealed that Joel and Ethan Coen are set to write the script for the movie. The Coens have proven themselves better at directing their own material than providing material for others, but Spielberg may well offer the exception to the rule there.

There's no timescale on the movie thus far, with Spielberg circling several other projects at the moment, including The BFG. More as we hear it...
