Michael Jackson and John Hughes documentaries on the way

A Michael Jackson behind the scenes film and a John Hughes documentary are on their way to the screen...

Would it be cynical to suggest that the mantra going around Hollywood at the moment would be to never let death get in the way of the dollar? That certainly seems to be the case with the announcement of a cinematic release for a behind the scenes film using footage shot around the preparation for Michael Jackson's proposed 50 concert run in London.

Inevitably, it seems that Sony can't get it into cinemas quickly enough, and the film - entitled This Is It - will be arriving on October 30th. That's after it got clearance from a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge. It'll feature footage from Jackson's final concert rehearsal before his death, and the material will be interspersed with interviews with an assortment of Jackson's friends and co-workers.

Less cynical is the news that an already-filmed documentary about one man's attempt to track down his hero, John Hughes, has now been snapped up for distribution. The film's called Don't You Forget About Me, and sees Matt Austin-Sadowski on a road trip to track down his hero. It features contributions from Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Mia Sara, Kelly LeBrock and Andrew McCarthy.

Alliance Films has picked up distribution rights, although no release details have been announced.
