Spielberg for Halo movie?

Martin Anderson

The Hollywood titan, reputedly an avid gamer, is rumoured to be stepping on board the hot-potato that everyone else keeps dropping...

IESB are pretty damn convinced that cinematic master chief Steven Spielberg is set on getting involved as a producer on the pillar-to-post Halo movie.

The movie adaptation of the popular Microsoft gaming franchise originated by Bungie seemed to be dead in the water after both potential producer Peter Jackson and director Neil Blomkamp failed to get the space-epic off the ground at 20th Century Fox.

Halo centres on the conflicts faced by super-soldier Master Chief in a war set 500 years in the future, wherein the human race battles an alliance of alien races known as the Covenant.

Spielberg is obviously far from aloof from Microsoft, who own all the Halo rights, having unveiled Project Natal for the company at the E3 expo earlier this year. A trilogy of films is envisaged that will take in the narrative covered by Halo 1-3, with the first movie providing backstory absent from the games and the third largely centering on the events in the Halo 3 game.

This is just a rumor, since no official announcements have been made, but IESB are just about as confident as they've ever been on any matter: "believe me this is solid and I've confirmed it three times over with studio executives and our close ties to CAA."

well, just keep in your memory banks the fact that Spielberg was also the executive producer for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen... back in the 80's, you could pretty much have high expectations for a project with "Executive producer Steven Spielberg" on it...IMO, his "collaborations" with Michael Bay have done some harm to this
