The cinematic follow-up to Zack Snyder's 300 gets closer. Here's the new trailer for 300: Rise Of An Empire...

It's been some time coming, but finally, the cinematic follow-up to Zack Snyder's 300 is almost upon us. Warner Bros has scheduled 300: Rise Of An Empire the film for a UK release on March 7th 2014, and it's released a brand new trailer for it, which you can see below. The trailer follows the release of new promotional posters and TV spots. The publicity machine is in full flow.

The new film still has Zack Snyder involved, but the directorial megaphone is this time in the hands of Noam Murro. It's based on Frank Miller's graphical novel Xerxes, and as you can see, retains the visual style of Snyder's earlier film.

Without further ado, here's that new trailer...

The problem will be that the original was truly striking in its visual style, it was fairly unique at the time. Since then, it has been copied and rehashed by a dozen or so lower quality films to the point where it almost feels cliched. This film is going to need a great narrative above and beyond 'stunning fight sequences' and I am not holding out much hope in that department.

At worst it will be comic book over stylised hokum and at best it might live up to it's predecessor. I'm a sucker for these swords, sandals and slaughter movies, so will probably enjoy it either way.

Gotta say ......... freaking awesome use of War Pigs there. \m/ \m/
