Dwayne Johnson adds to Green Lantern rumours

News Glen Chapman 6 Feb 2014 - 06:18

Might The Rock be playing Green Lantern in Zack Snyder's Batman Vs Superman? Or another DC movie?

Inevitably, this is one of those stories where pinches of salt will come in very useful. We're deep into rumour territory here.

The hints in question this time though have come in part from the Instagram account of Dwayne Johnson, The Rock himself. The latest round of speculation started with a hashtag that the man posted, which read #JohnStewartCanStillWhupSupermansAss. When you add that to the fact that the man himself confirmed that he had a big meeting with DC, it seemed to point towards him playing Green Lantern, possibly in Zack Snyder's Batman Vs Superman movie (and beyond).

IGN subsequently copied him in on a Tweet questioning whether he had revealed that he’s playing John Stewart/The Green Lantern to which he replied "All I said was #LanternCanWhupSuperman". Which of course does little to dispel the speculation.

It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Warner Bros go in a different direction following the performance, or lack thereof, of the previous Green Lantern cinematic outing. We'd wager hard cash and coffee that Ryan Reynolds won't be back for a start. But there are lots of questions here. Is Johnson really going to take on the role of Green Lantern? And if so, will it be in the Man Of Steel sequel, a standalone film, or maybe the Justice League feature?

We have answers to none of these questions at the moment. And if Dwayne Johnson does, he's not telling...

Poor little Hastag. Why do people abuse you so?

*hashtag. Poor little English language, Why do people abuse you so?

If The Rock is in BvS then that film just got interesting!
The Rock is an asset to any movie - the guy rules!
I'd love to see him People's Elbow Superman...Know your role and Shut Your Mouth!

...lowercase w in why...

Completely lower case, and also an incorrect use of ellipsis. WE CAN DO THIS ALL DAY, GOOD SIR.

*ellipses Indeed we can, especially since you seem to abuse the English language too. So do you want to be the pot or the kettle?

agreed he is the american statham just makes films better for being there

I will further perpetuate this by pretending to be outraged and quoting myself (though I've never actually said it) by saying "All caps? Really?".

I can't last much longer! It's been years since school!

Oh dear... This film is sounding worse and worse every day!

Johnson as guy gardner.

It must be.

Love how that picture looks as if Mr. Johnson has stolen something of value from the Irish Gardai, and is panicked about it. I can actually imagine him running round somewhere like Limerick in a movie full of cliched Oirish gangsters and corrupt cops. I'd pay to see that, so I would.

... cool if turns out to be true, but I rather have Ryan Reynolds back and pretend Green Lantern didn't happened or it was a bad dream

Thanks for the concern guys but really, I'm ok.

Inebriation and tiredness?

I'd like to take option C. It's a new product called the Pottle.

Also, we really can't do this all day. Life, n all that. Pls if I rilly wnted to I cud feck the english lnguage to the pnt of no rtrn.

Oi, that's for true. Cuz Ay man ay, we cool right? Aaight son PAYCE

Haha,I really can't decide whether it's hysterically funny, plain sad or some combination thereof that someone actually went to the trouble of creating an account with this name just for this post. :D

Marvel get Batista in Guardians of the Galaxy... DC have The Rock in this... if I'm honest, for once, it seems like this film is getting the better deal!

I think 'both' is the best I can hope for! It's really a happy confluence of events - I'd been meaning to make an account, and I'm a linguistics student. It just seemed like the perfect opportunity. :)

Man, this brings back such horrible memories about Green Lantern. There are so many great comic book movies out there these days; why did they have to ruin MY childhood comic hero??!

Batman v Superman. With Wonderwoman. And Green Lantern. And any other DC hero we can think of because we want to get them on screen but don't have the patience or skill to slowly build a universe. It's like the late 70s/80s but reversed - this time Marvel rule the cinema, while DC are lagging far behind, any quality offeriings being found only on TV. Actually, that's going a bit too far; I just remembered exactly how bad Marvel's pre-Blade offerings were - say what you like about Man of Steel or Green Lantern, but I doubt they'll ever leave the lingering nasty aftertaste of such offerings as the 1990 Captain America film or the 1970s Spiderman. Truly awful.
