According to the fine folks at Coming Soon, the further adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow could be just two years away. The site caught up with Disney's Head of Production, Oren Aviv, who confirmed that a fourth movie is set to start shooting in May of next year, with a view to being released the following summer.

Worryingly, Aviv also suggested that this could be the start of a second trilogy of Pirates films, which for our money is where things went wrong last time. After all, the first Pirates film is as tight and exciting a blockbuster as we've had in the past decade. The second and third were bloated messes, that desperately needed more time spent in the editing room, and a bit more work on their respective scripts. While Disney made a lot of money off them, the shooting of films two and three back to back did the end product quite a lot of damage, in our view.

Right now, there's no confirmation that Gore Verbinski will be returning behind the camera. But we do know that the 'R' word has been mentioned. That's 'R' for Reboot, of course. Says Aviv: "The movies have subsequently gotten bigger and bigger and very complicated and they were satisfying on so many levels obviously, but I want to kind of reboot the whole thing and bring it down to its core, its essence, just characters."

Expect Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 in 2011, then. Let's just hope that it's a few years after that before we get Pirates Of The Caribbean 5...
