World of Warcraft: a new franchise with pretty much limitless sequel potential...?
Published on Jul 22, 2009
Spiderman and schlock-horror supremo Sam Raimi (whose non-horror work we are appreciating today) has signed on to make a movie of the World Of Warcraft videogame series.
Game publisher Blizzard Entertainment are putting the film together with Legendary Pictures, with Warner Bros. to co-finance and distribute. Dark Knight producer Charles Roven is also onboard.
World Of Warcraft is one of the most venerable video-game franchises, hailing back to 1994, and presents an open-ended conflict between the Alliance and the Horde. Raimi will shoot the movie after completing Spiderman 4 duties next year.
I'm guessing that anyone who loved Army Of Darkness is getting pretty excited right now...

If it was anyone else I would have serious doubts - but is Rami can blend his trademark tongue-in-cheek humour with some amazing battle scenes this could be amazing. He's almost like sure-fire stamp of quality.
