Michael Douglas will star alongside Paul Rudd in Edgar Wright's Ant-Man for Marvel...

Not for the first time, Marvel has secured another inspired and surprise piece of casting for one of its upcoming movies. For it's now been confiremd that Michael Douglas will be playing Hank Pym in Edgar Wright's Ant-Man. Paul Rudd, who was recently cast as the lead in the film, will be playing Scott Lang.

Marvel's Kevin Feige has confirmed the casting, saying that "with Hank Pym's rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn't be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life".

Director and co-screenwriter Edgar Wright explained some time ago his plan for the film which he confirmed yesterday. "So you actually do a prologue where you see Pym as Ant-Man in action in the '60s, in sort of a 'Tales to Astonish' mode basically, and then the contemporary, sort of flash-forward, is Scott Lang's story, and how he comes to acquire the suit, how he crosses paths with Henry Pym, and then, in an interesting sort of Machiavellian way, teams up with him".

Sounds intriguing. More news on Ant-Man when it's available.

What!? Dude's like a million years old. WTF?

Are you thick or did you just not read the article properly?

I think it's quite a cool idea to have the film set in both the campy 60s tone of the original comics and the more serious modern tone of the Movies. Ant man is such a goofy character idea it can only really work with a knowing wink and a nod and Edgar wright is perfect to do that. I say we will be seeing Douglas playing old Pym so I wonder who will be playing a young Pym. I wonder who'll be playing Wasp?

This just got x10,000 more awesome!

This sounds like typically brilliant casting by Marvel. Damn, they're good at this.

Great plan - having Hank Pym as Ant-Man would've seemed somewhat anachronistic seeing as there have been two more modern versions of the character to call on - unlikely Marvel could've got away with having Pym's Ant-Man doing stories from further on in the canon.

On top of that, I'm not sure if the fans would be bothered about seeing another full-on origin story - we've got that desire out of our system with the others, now we just want action.

Great casting, should make an interesting film.

But... it does mean we'll never get Hank in the Avengers, which is a shame as he's one of the originals. Seeing the original lineup on screen would have been awesome.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this!

Genius casting. They certainly have some clever boys and girls at Disney/Marvel. Casting RDJ opened up the gates for pretty much anyone to be involved in the MCU and it's all the better for it.

Great pic! Maybe there'll be a further prologue showing how deranged individual hank pym uses his suit in the 90's, and proceeds to "fight crime" by smashing up Korean stores, vatos, and neo nazi surpluses, all on Lego form!

I thinks its a shame. I'd would much rather have had a Hank Pym Ant-man movie, rather than Scott Lang. Always thought Pym was a much more interesting character than Lang (or Eric O'Grady). Probably means we'll miss out on the Hank/Janet relationship too & possibly Wasp being in a future Avengers movie, as casting Michael Douglas as Hank would also push up Janet's age.

Hank beats Janet and she goes to Scott? Too grown... Got it! He beats her at Taboo!

I'm still expecting some scenes or a portion of the film to have a period setting in 60's/70's with a young Pym discovering the Pym Particles and having an adventure...

Amazing casting! Hopefully the film starts with a Romancing the Stone kind of adventure with the original Ant Man (this is billed as a heist movie, non?). Then Hank will be a mentor-type to the new Ant Man. Oh and let Paul Rudd be Ant Man AND Giant Man!! Hopefully they'll leave the wife-beating out (although - War of the Roses?!!)

Rashida Jones is still my pick

I love that superhero movies are so successful now that studios aren't afraid to have them set in previous time periods :-)

Yep, it would place it inbetween the first Captain America film and the first Iron Man film on the MCU timeline.
