Peter Berg on Friday Night Lights and The Rundown 2

Peter Berg plays down another Friday Night Lights movie, and plays up a sequel to The Rundown, starring Dwayne Johnson.

Friday Night Lights is one of the finest American TV dramas of recent years, and one that we’ve championed on this site recently. Furthermore, the finale of the show was as perfect as fans could have hoped for, offering a sense of closure on the storylines as well as leaving you wanting more and offering a glimpse of what the future held for the characters.

The show spun out of a movie directed by Peter Berg, who also oversaw the TV series. And there have been rumours for some time about a film sequel that would be connected to the TV series. The cast have certainly indicated that they'd be interested, but it seems that it isn't the way that Peter Berg himself wants to go. Chatting to Collider, he's now said that "there’s not gonna be a movie. We talked about it, some people thought it was a good idea, some didn’t; I’ve come to believe it’s probably not a good idea and I seriously doubt it’s gonna happen".

This is a great shame, Berg did go onto reveal that he was working on a follow up to another one of his projects in the form of a sequel to The Rundown (also known as Welcome To The Jungle). Berg said that "we just met with writers, so we’re trying to do it. I really want to do it. I’ve talked to Dwayne. I have an actor in mind that I can’t say that I want to work with Dwayne on it, and we want to do it".

The original is a lot of fun, and if the sequel can recapture that it should be entertaining at the very least. It might not stretch its lead to the extent of some of the projects he’s selecting at the moment, but it’s hard to complain about the prospect of a solid straight up action movie.

The Rundown (or, here in Oz, Welcome To The Jungle) was great popcorn fun! Critics = Hate - Audience = Loved It! One of the first DVD's that I bought.
Peter Berg has made some fun movies, and I didn't mind Battleship at all, maybe they should have taken the emphasis off the boardgame, maybe renamed it, but that was an awesome 2hrs, think I might watch it again tonight.
The Kingdom, rewatchable definitely...
But all time fave...Very Bad Things :)

It's such a shame about Friday Night Lights. However, it means that the series can't be tarnished. Every could has a silver lining.

I wonder if that means no sean william scott for this one...

The Kingdom is excellent :-)
