"There's a lot of secrets in District 9."

It's in the midst of a story where aliens have come to Earth and live as refugees in South Africa that we might just have one of the most interesting films of the year. Already 2009 is looking to be something of a big year for science fiction cinema, with Star Trek hitting hard at the box office, and the small matter of Surrogates and Avatar still to come.

But District 9 could still be the one to watch. Sony's smart promotional campaign for the film has clearly done it a few favours, and thus we were intrigued to get what's actually the first full length trailer for it (earlier in the week we got a new viral video, which you can see here). It expands on the theme of keeping aliens separate from humans, and you can draw plenty of subtexts already, and with some excellent use of sound here, it's a really good trailer.

The only downside? We're not utterly convinced by the look of the aliens themselves, but aren't sure that squinting at them in a web browser does them many favours, to be fair.

Still, our ticket for the film - out on 14th August - is very firmly sold.
