The Expendables update: bring on the sequels?
Simon Brew
The Expendables could be the start of a franchise, Sandra Bullock was never approached, and could Bruce Willis be appearing?

As the shoot for Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables - surely, by now, officially the most exciting film on the planet - draws to a close, word has emerged that Sly's reunion of lots of action stars with lots of violence might just be a starting point.
NOLA.com is reporting that producer Avi Lerner is looking for the film to be the start of a franchise, with presumably whoever's left standing come the end of the film ready to pick their guns up again for a follow-up. This would, of course, allow Stallone to raid the cupboard of former action heroes once more, and considering there are so many people who didn't make it into this film, we'd suggest there's room yet for another two or three movies at least. Expendables 2: Electric Booglaloo, anyone?
In other Expendables news, Sandra Bullock has denied that she was ever approached about appearing in the film. Bullock, who appeared alongside Sly in the majestic Demolition Man, is currently riding high at the box office in The Proposal, but according to EmpireOnline, she was never spoken to about appearing in The Expendables. Maybe the sequel, eh?
Finally, there's still no confirmation one way or the other on the suggested Bruce Willis cameo for the film. Willis has been strongly linked with the role of Church, the man who brings everyone together in the film. He's currently shooting Kevin Smith's A Couple Of Dicks, but the suggestion is if time allows, he'll head over to Expendables-land for a day or two.
The film, sadly, doesn't arrive until next April still, and that's clearly a tragedy. We hope our next story on the matter will report its release date being moved forward to tomorrow. We can but hope...
