District 9 new poster and video

Find out how aliens reproduce, and check out a new poster for Sony’s grand-looking District 9…
Published on Jul 7, 2009
Now that’s what we call a tagline.
While marketing types sit around trying to come up with clever things to put on posters to sell the latest opus to land on their desk, somebody at Sony Pictures had the fine idea to do something a bit different with District 9. Granted, the film itself is far different from the fare that Sony has been selling us of late – Angels & Demons, Year One, for instance – and there’s an argument that it might just be the studio’s most interesting film of the year. However, putting “You are not welcome here” on a poster surely goes against everything they tell you in those posh, expensive textbooks.
Marvelllous.
To accompany the brand new poster, Sony has also released the latest viral video for the film. It has the feel of a Dharma video from Lost, although this one’s about the reproductive qualities of aliens. In the true old style man with a pointer and diagram way, it’s a simple, grainy introduction to the critters of District 9, which we maintain could well be one of the summer’s most interesting films.
It arrives in August, and you can see the new video below. And the poster above. Genius!
