Brandon Routh’s Superman contract expires

So who’s playing Superman now? Brandon Routh confirms he’s no longer under contract to play The Man Of Steel…
Published on Jul 6, 2009
Brandon Routh's future as The Man Of Steel has been thrown into doubt, as the actor has revealed that his contract to play Superman has now expired. In talking to the website Omelete as part of the promotion for the film Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, Routh admitted to the site that "I do not know of anything. I am sure that Warner Brothers is moving there, but everything is uncertain. Really, I do not know anything."
He then confirmed that "the term contract has expired. But if they call me, I would suit up without thinking twice about it."
With there being few fresh signs of movement on a Superman sequel, the expiry of Routh's contract may give Warner Bros a clear run at rebooting the whole franchise from scratch again. That said, in this instance, it may just be a case of if it wants Routh to reprise the role, it just offers him another contract anyway.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the story, and one that hints at just how much limbo the project is in, is that the contract was allowed to expire in the first place.
You can find the Omelete story here. You might need a good phrasebook to get the most out of it, though...
