A project that seemingly shot out of nowhere, that's now firmly on the 20th Century Fox slate for summer 2010, the new Predator sequel - Predators - has finally had its director confirmed.
Over at AintItCool, the films' producer and writer Robert Rodriguez has now confirmed that he won't be taking the reins himself on the project, and that Nimrod Antal will be directing the film. Antal has the likes of the thriller Vacancy on his resume thus far, and his new film Armored is incoming.
Rodriguez said of the choice of director that "When I saw Armored, I could tell he's also great with action and has a keen eye for casting." He continued, saying, "He reminded me of Quentin with how he was able to work with a group of very strong, singular actor talents and make it look effortless. I know he'll be able to get the most out of what we want to be an outstanding cast. We really want to go with a character driven action movie, because that's what we all remember about the original Predator, and we want to take it even further with this".
As for why Rodriguez didn't direct the film himself? "When I was hired to write the original draft back in 1994, I was only brought on as a writer. I never thought I'd get to work on it in any other capacity," he admitted, confirming that "I was already booked up as a director when this came back to me..
He's still having a heavy involvement in the project, and you can find out more about that over at AICN.
