Terminator 5 set in London?

Martin Anderson

The Terminator franchise to leave the confines of the US for the first time...?

Published on Jun 6, 2009

This is a rumour from Bleeding Cool that has the endorsement of /Film, so therefore a bit more credibility than it might normally get: the follow-up to Terminator Salvation will be set in London. The original post gives little more detail on the matter, except that it will be 'present day' (2011).

If true, I'll be pleased to see it, since that definitely means time travel is back in the franchise. Not that I wouldn't like to see my native city in ruins (only because it looked so good that way in Reign Of Fire), but rather because Terminator movies ought to have time travel. If not, it's just another future war scenario.

/Film noted McG's speculation on T5:

"I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a 2011. John Connor is going to travel back in time and he’s going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They’ve figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you’re going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be fucking awesome."

A week or so before Salvation hit, there was talk that next one would be a time travel story. It's been done already, do something else. Of course with Salvation failing to live up to expectations, we may have a long wait before another Terminator film.

Why not just use the story line that the Sarah connor chronicles has just set up on it's demise? It's hella original and can change the formula that seems to have set in.....

The studio picked up the new Terminator Franchise with plans for three movies. That means that we have two more terminator flicks that are in the slate for production. The only problem is that due to the bad reception of Salvation with its dumbass director MCG at the helm they just might have to reboot the franchise again. If they dont then they have to stick to the plot they have already developed. This is a good franchise and I love the original Terminator and T2. I liked Salvation but it was just not as good as the original. For the love of god they better not skrew this next one up. Why not bring James Cameron back to the series. At least then the movie will look good.

Ah. I remember when the Terminator films were complex, sophisticated and deeply character-driven works of science fiction with a sharp edge and an intelligent plot. But now? Huh. Family entertainment designed to flog action figures. Crap. I couldn't care less about McG's Terminator movies. I read somewhere that he would prove himself" with Salvation. All he proved is that he is a crap director with no respect for the source material or characters, even if he thinks otherwise.

This would be terrible. A a can see the cast already. One moody scot, a one drunk irishman and about twelve dick van dyke cockneys. Please no!
