Charlton Heston: 1924-2008
Den of Geek
A cinematic legend passed away over the weekend. Den Of Geek salutes Charlton Heston.
Published on Apr 7, 2008
While perhaps most remembered for the likes of Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments, we have a special fondness for some of his science fiction work. In the late 1960s, for instance, he appeared in the original – and by comfortable distance, the best – Planet Of The Apes film (he also had involvement with a couple more, but we won’t go into those), while he also took the lead in The Omega Man, a superior take on Richard Matheson’s I Am Legend than Will Smith recently managed.
He also, of course, did the voice over to Armageddon. Legend.
He died at his Beverly Hills home, on 5th April 2008.

Whatever my feelings on the NRA, I have to admit that the Heston sci-fi Trilogy (Planet Of The Apes, The Omega Man and Soylent Green) is an estimable Geek legacy.
