Disney’s A Christmas Carol: first footage

Robert Zemeckis and Jim Carrey are bringing the classic tale back to the big screen this Christmas. And here’s a taster of what we can expect…

You know, I have to wear my heart on my sleeve with this one. Much though I'll always be eternally grateful to director Robert Zemeckis for bringing Back To The Future into my life (aka the finest film trilogy of all time), for me Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol will always be about the Muppets. 1992's outstanding A Muppet Christmas Carol is not only the best telling of the story on the big screen - sorry to Alastair Sim, there - but it's one of the finest Yuletide films full stop. What's not to like?
Still, that hasn't stopped Robert Zemeckis taking the techniques he employed in The Polar Express and Beowulf one stage further, in the latest telling of the story. Using a motion-captured Jim Carrey, Disney has released a 19 second promo clip from the film to give us a flavour of what to expect.
And you have to say that technically, it looks staggering. Robert Zemeckis has pushed the use of technology in big movies repeatedly over the years, and you can argue here that he's on the verge of doing so again. The problem still remains as to how you can breathe fresh life into a tale that's been told so many times, but at the very least, the clip below has got me interested. Wonder if Fozzie Bear will turn up in it, though?
The film's out in November.
