Sherlock Holmes gets a trailer

Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr bring the classic sleuth back to life this winter – and you can see the first full trailer here…

Amidst reports of ordered reshoots from Warner Bros, things in the world of the Sherlock Holmes production appear to have been a little choppy. But with photography now finished and post-production well underway, it's refreshing to be able to feast our eyes on some footage from the film.

Warner Bros has now debuted the first trailer of the movie, which is due out this Christmas, and you can catch a glimpse now of Robert Downey Jr as the supersleuth just below. Jude Law and Rachel McAdams are in there too...

I am (very) cautiously intrigued. Trailers are tricky things to judge films by, but this makes it look like Wild Wild West meets mid-late-90s Gothic flicks like Stigmata or End of Days! Really not sure about the outrageous action, but I do like RDJ's look - kinda like a satanic acid-munching hipster.

Please NO!!!! Sherlock Holmes as the all action hero? Can Hollywood not leave anything alone.

From this, I would say this film is going to be fairly funny, but completely ridiculous. I love RDJ so will probably watch anyway, but will probably spend half the movie shaking my head.

Dont no what to make of that. Those looking for a classic sherlock holmes story are in for a a shock. RDJ looks good though, tony stark with an english accent. Jude Law is a tool though, just dont like him

Probably to likely to be a classic Holmes film, but looks entertaining for all that.

Wow! Looks fantastic! A true successor to the Jeremy Brett Holmes. Naysayers seem to be saying that it looks like Holmes is an action hero. Er, he is. It actually looks close in spirit to the books- just filmed in a Guy Ritchie way! And (finally!) Holmes and Watson have been cast with people who are nearly the right age (though even ten years younger might be more in keeping with the actual characters in the books. Cannot wait!!!

A little ironic, that RDJ is faking a Brit accent here where Hugh Laurie fakes an American one in House. A bit annoyed that Holmes is all action-y.

Huh. Despite my reservations, I was still cautiously optimistic about this movie...until now. This trailer really does, as was suggested above, have more than a whiff of 'Wild Wild West' about it. I really do like RDJ's costume, though. I wouldn't mind seeing Matt Smith's Doctor [Who] in something similar.
