Scorsese signs up for Sinatra

A Frank Sinatra biopic is pressing ahead, with Mr Martin Scorsese behind the camera…
Published on May 14, 2009
The last we heard of a Frank Sinatra biopic, it was rumoured that Den Of Geek's Favouritest Director In The World (TM), Mr Brett Ratner, was circling the project, Tragically, that seemed to be just a rumour, and Mr Ratner is having to content himself with other work. We feel a sense of loss, and we're sure you do as well.
Still, it you can't get Brett Ratner in, then Martin Scorsese strikes us an able substitute. Clearly he can't hold much of a torch to the Rush Hour 3 helmer, but we fancy his chances nonetheless with his now-confirmed biopic of Frank Sinatra, which will be going before the cameras once work on this winter's (brilliant looking) Shutter Island is done and dusted.
Right now, there's no word on who will be stepping into the shoes of Ol' Blue Eyes himself - Kevin Spacey might be a decent shout, after his Bobby Darin biopic, and Leonardo di Caprio will inevitably be in the running - but we do know that Phil Alden Robinson will be writing the script. The same Phil Adlen Robinson that adapted and directed the peerless Field Of Dreams.
No word on a release date yet, but one to watch out for nonetheless...
