Guillermo del Toro has been talking about his ambitious superhero team-up movie, The Dark Justice League...

You may remember a while back Guillermo del Toro revealed that he was in discussions with Warner Bros about a super hero team up movie. But it wouldn’t be The Justice League, instead a kind of Dark Justice League that would bring together some of his favourite and underappreciated characters in DC’s stable.

In a recent interview with Total Film he provided an update on the project. “Yeah, I am going to be presenting my storyline to DC and Warners of where I want to take this universe", he said. "We do have a writer, but until that is firmed up, I have to keep it a secret. I hope it happens.”

He went on to talk of his vision for the film. “I’d love to use the origins that are proper to each character. I love the idea of Jason Blood as a paladin and a knight…. I love the entire Constantine mythology, the Dead Man mythology, the Alex Holland Swamp Thing mythology. These are really rich things to well, and to dig".

Fingers crossed this film has better luck than some of del Toro’s previous passion projects. More on the Dark Justice League when it’s available.

If they can't get JLA off the ground, I can't see this going anywhere.

This might have a greater chance of succeeding than JLA, since it'll be a darker and possibly more mature outing. JLA, on the other hand, will simply be going head-to-head with The Avengers market...

Any of the Vertigo lineup would make for potentially good movies, IMHO...

Yes yes a thousand times YES!

Here I was getting all excited about Hellboy 3 in that brief moment between seeing the the picture and reading the headline....

I agree. These characters have always inhabited their own little corner of the DCU, well away from the main characters until recently.

They allow for different types of stories than you would expect to find covered in a JL movie too.

There's no reason why they can't go ahead with this even with the JL film stalled and then possibly crossover at a later date if it becomes a franchise rather than a very interesting one-off.

I've always been partial to theory of the DC icons being the next generation of New Gods and Del Toro's film is just the guys who have to deal with what's left of the old ones who aren't going quietly!

screw that! give us hellboy 3 before its too late.

I hope that even if JLA doesn't get made that it won't affect the outcome of Dark Universe/Dark Justice League. This is currently the film I am most excited about.

There is no reason this shouldn't be made well before jla

Typical nerd nit picking here but isnt the comic called Justice League Dark? Dark Justice League doesnt sound as good.

Here I was getting all scared about Hellboy 3 in that brief moment between seeing the the picture and reading the headline....
