007 gets its next director

James Bond will return. And there's an unusual choice behind the camera, too...
Published on Jun 20, 2007
Forster’s an unusual choice, having been the man behind the camera on smaller dramas such as the acclaimed duo, Monster’s Ball and Finding Neverland. More recently has been the Ewan McGregor thriller Stay, and the Will Ferrell outing, Stranger Than Fiction.
Forster has been linked with big movies before, and a few years ago he turned down the opportunity to direct Harry Potter & The Prisoner Of Azkaban (although few would begrudge the job Alfonso Cuaron did on that flick).
It’s not the first time the franchise has turned to more dramatic directors over the past decade or so, with the argument being that the action tends to be handled by the experienced second unit anyway. That said, Michael Apted’s The World Is Not Enough wasn’t much cop, and many fans were no doubt hoping for the return of Martin Campbell to the director’s chair.
Still, Forster seems an interesting choice, and his curriculum vitae is encouraging. Plus we’ve got one hell of a soft spot for Finding Neverland.
As for the movie itself? The 22nd Bond film has moved back from its planned May slot next year to a release date of 7 November 2008. Daniel Craig is back, as you’d expect, and the narrative is expecting to pick up from the threads that Casino Royale left behind. There’s no title as of yet, but you can expect to be hearing lots about the latest return of 007 over the comings months…

I've not seen a single Bond film, but I did like both Stranger Than Fiction and Finding Neverland, so that's a good start.

Die Another Day was the best Bond film since The Spy Who Loved Me . As for the franchise reboot, leaving Q entirely out of Casino Royale is just too much monkeying with the franchise. Craig is an excellent actor who I admire tremendously but he looks like like that old potato you found under the oven when you moved house, sorry.
