John Woo open to direct Expendables 3

News Glen Chapman 3 Jan 2013 - 06:32

In a recent interview John Woo has been talking about his fondness of The Expendables and his interest in directing the third instalment.

Shortly after The Expendables 2 was released, we had the rumours of potential new stars for the second sequel, which saw the likes of Harrison Ford, Clint Eastwood and Wesley Snipes linked, with Nic Cage reportedly already signed up. Now attention seems to have turned to who the director could be after Simon West, director of the glorious Con Air, took over directing duties from Sylvester Stallone for the sequel.

In a recent interview, John Woo had the following to say about The Expendables and the likelihood of his directing a film in the franchise:

“It was very big in China and all over the news. It was a great movie. I saw it with my family. We all love the action. Van Damme made a believable villain.”

He continued by commenting about fans lobbying for him to direct The Expendables 3: “[laughs] I read that. I am a big fan of all of those guys and will do it but I want less studio and producer interference. I want to shoot the movie the way I want. That's the difference in making a movie in China and Hollywood. In China, the studio and the producer allow flexibility to the director. One thing for sure is, I want it to take place in China. I also have a vision of this big fight between Jet Li and Van Damme but then they have killed him off.”

We'll offer a sensible solution to the death of Van Damme for you, Mr. Woo: have Van Damme return to play the twin brother of Jean Vilain and name him Claude Vilain and pass it off as a nice reference to Double Impact...

OOO pretty please, Mr Woo, or Chow yun-fat or Donnie Yen for the bad guy???

Only if Mr Woo has final cut on the finished film... when he doesn't we get the butchered version of 'Hard Target' (still waiting on Woo's 116-minute director's cut) or bland rubbish like 'Broken Arrow', when he does we get classics like the mighty 'Face/Off'.

John Woo should direct a faithful remake of 'Assassins', only this time sticking faithfully to the Wachowski siblings' original and darker screenplay before Dick Donner butchered it... of course, Woo should have directed it back in 1995 instead of the aforementioned 'Broken Arrow'!

John woo just spoiled it for me. Wait... He didn't say which character, van damme or jet li... I will from henceforth shun this article like an Amish shunning a sexy, sexy cow; tearfully.

Still no Reb Brown? Come on guys you need a blood curdling scream like his in your film.

" We'll offer a sensible solution to the death of Van Damme for you, Mr. Woo: have Van Damme return to play the twin brother of Jean Vilain and name him Claude Vilain" not sure if your joking but wikipedia states (I know not very reliable) "On August 13, 2012, Van Damme indicated that Stallone might include him in The Expendables 3 as Claude Vilain, brother of Jean Vilain" everyone seems to be on the same page and I really would like to see him back

If they could get an on-form Steven De Souza to script it, It could be movie heaven.

I'm thinking Shane Black might be busy.

i think it would be good for john woo to direct expendables 3. last american film he did was paycheck. besides nicolas cage signed up for expendables 3 so it wold be nice to reunite with his face off and windtalkers director. it would also be good if they got steven seagal, kurt russell, michael keaton, christian slater, and john travolta in this film. i would love to see bruce willis, arnold schwarzenegger and jean claude van damme again for the third one.

Michael jai white, and Donnie yen for the Antagonist and the right Hand man. Scott Adkins and van damme were awesome.

Michael jai white and Donnie yen for the bad guys!

Ok so here's my idea for the perfect cast: I was kind of skeptical about
Some of the original members but they have kind of grown on me so...
Keep the original members and in addition add Steven stegal, Clint eastwood,
Don The dragon Wilson, Danny Trejo. Ive heard talks about bringing back
Van damme yeah ok sure great! But make Sean Connery the main baddie.
More feemales are a must, I'm thinking Linda Hamilton
And Michelle Rodriguez

Oh and by the way John Woo directing this one sounds awesome!!

Oh and how could I forget Wesley Angles he would fit right in

Oh and how could I forget Wesley snypes. He would fit right it

when does
Steven Seagal get to join:)
