The Amazing Spider-Man

The villain in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Jamie Foxx, has been chatting about the role...

Whilst on promotional duties for Django Unchained, Jamie Foxx has been asked (on more than one occasion, we'd guess) about his upcoming role as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Chatting to BlackFilm, here's what he had to say it, and what we can expect from the villain's suit. “It won't be green and yellow. It will be a different colour. They want something for the future. They want to have it more grounded and not as comic book-y, so it won't be green and yellow. They want to try new things, like a liquid rubber and things like that, and there are all these bolts and stuff in my arms when they're hanging upside down and trying to figure out what happened. How did he become this way? So, it will be some new stuff", he said.

Foxx continued, ading that "in the script, this villain is the first time it's been written really, really well. Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb both commented on how great the script is, so it should be an exciting time".

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for release on the May 2nd 2014 and is set to go in front of cameras early next year. That means it shouldn't be too long before we get some pics of the Electro suit, we'd imagine...

I do hate when studio's make a comic book film, and then announce they will try not to make it 'comic-booky'.

'non comic-booky' It worked with TDK, because Batman has a gritty feel through out the comics. Spiderman is NOT gritty. Just have it comic-booky. It worked for The Avengers!!

I can see this new version of the Electro character being awful.

The gritty electro? Who the... Oh you mean the BLACK electro. Well in that case if avengers ever introduces Luke cage, I'd like Tom hanks to fill the role. Nothin grittier than Forrest in a tucked in yellow shirt and upside down tiara

It's actually a very interesting point. Using a black actor to play the part of a white character.

It's a growing trend. Laurence Fishburne is to play the part of Perry White in Man of Steel. Again, no problem with that. I reckon he will be great. I remember Colin Salmon being rumoured to be playing the new Bond before Daniel Craig was cast.

And recently Lucy Lu has been cast as a female version of Watson.

I personally have no problem with this. It doesn't make a difference to me. Best actor for the job I say.

However, when Tom Cruise was cast as Jack Reacher, all hell broke loose as he is not as tall as the character in the book! haha.

I'm not too bothered about the costume as it looks a bit daft, even in the comics. I just would like to see Spider-Man film that really builds the tension. Maybe have Norman Osborne fill in for the kingpin and recruit villains to take down Spider-man and then at the end of the film he becomes the Green Goblin. I do hope that Electro is done well, it just seems that Spider-man isn't as ambitious as what others are doing.

I absolutely agree. I've never seen a movie so ashamed of its source material as the last Spiderman, and this one is gearing up in the same vein.

The suit looks very silly anyway, so it's no bad thing that they're changing it.

It is different with Tom Cruise and Reacher, though. A black, Asain, green, purple, whatever Reacher is fine, so long as the guy's the right one for the job. But a big factor of the character is his looming physical presence. The guy's meant to be massive! A film with Tom Cruise playing a Reacher-esque character where his short stature factors in would be just fine. Might add to the shock-factor of his violent side. But Reacher needed a hefty guy to play him, if you ask me. I may be in a minority and I may yet be proven wrong when I see the film, but with just the trailers to go on I do think someone with a greater physical presence was needed.

Seriously laughing at the fact Jamie Foxx is playing Electro..
I seriously didn't like the new cashcow Spiderman, but I will watch the 2nd one just to laugh at him..
.. Racist black guy playing a white guy.. ahaha..

No it isn't. Seriously people are taking those words out of context. He said "Won't be as comic booky so it won't be green and yellow." that could very well mean that the original costume won't translate well to film. Like Thor's Helmet or Hawkeyes original costume. In truth, Electro's original costume wouldn't translate well on film.

How is he racist?

How do you know people are taking those words out of context? What context is it meant to be in?

All we have are those words, so that is what we are going on.

Do a quick search in Google to find out.

In the good old days, they would get some book with a normal, unassuming, not tongue-tied every-day citizen lead character... And cast Arnold Schwarzenegger. Oh the woeful state of film today. Am I being sarcastic? Doesn't matter, works either way

And boy I always hated electros suit

If anything the Amazing Spider-Man was much more in line with source material than the first Raimni Spiderman (web-shooters, Peter's big mouth, ... Gwen Stacy being his first love?). Also consider that Doc Ock, who has a costume in the comics, also did not have one for Spiderman 2.

Remind me how Doctor Octopus's costume in Spiderman 2 compared to his comic version.

While the costume is taking a more realistic approach instead of the "comic-booky" green and yellow (by that, they meant the childlike drawing style - not that they aren't making their movies heavily based on the comic book origins) I think this can be a good thing. Can you imagine how stupid Dr Octopus would've looked in a bright green and yellow skintight costume? The trenchcoat grounded him. In my opinion, you couldn't take him as seriously as a villain.

Electro's costume should have a superhero-esque style to it. Since they're changing it, the costume is open to all sorts of designs: leather, metal (Green Goblin style), spandex/skintight, etc. 'The suit will be black' can make Electro look really good if he has other patterns and designs, like yellow (or white, cyan, whatever 'lightening' style colours) navigating his costume. Maybe he could keep the lightning bolts that go down the side of his legs or front of his torso.

What, the SNL thing? It was a skit in relation to a film about slavery. He said its great to kill all the white people in the film. It doesn't make him a racist.

Would it make a jewish actor racist if they said it was great to "kill all those Germans" in relation to a WWII film?

Some folk need tougher skin.

P.S

HE'S JOKING!!!!!!

Yes it would, considering the NAZIS (not the GERMAN people) slaughtered the Jews.

Would it be racist for me to say 'it was GREAT to KILL all the black people in GTA.. JOKE! HA! HA! HA!'

..Yes it ****ing would!
So why is it not racist for JF to say the same?

(I shall state now that I am in no means racist towards black people and never have been)
Why is it a black person (JF!!) says that he's been racially abused and everyone's in uproar.. and then the same black person makes a (HILARIOUS) racial comment, gets a tiny amount of backlash, then claims it just a 'joke' so it may all be just swept under the carpet..

It's not about being 'tough skinned' people just need to get over being black or white or brown or yellow. Be kind and polite and be human.

P.S

He wasn't joking.. he never is (neither is Jay Z)..
And I've just realised that he's probably loving the fact he's stolen a white guys part.. jokes on me now.
