Teaser trailer for Shane Carruth's Upstream Color
The director of Primer has a new film on the way. Here's the teaser trailer for Shane Carruth's Upstream Color...
Back in 2004, enterprising filmmaker Shane Carruth made a mind-boggling time travel movie called Primer. Shot on a budget of just $7000 - an unfeasibly tiny amount by most filmmakers' standards - the movie was smart, complex, and caused a minor sensation among critics and sci-fi fans.
Eight years on, and Carruth's next film, Upstream Color, is nearly with us. What it's about we couldn't tell you, but the tone is ominous, and hints at all kinds of strange and potentially violent events. IMDb's description currently reads, "A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives."
What is the ageless organism? Is it like the planet in Solaris - a colossal living creature capable of simulating whole realities? So many questions. All we can say is, it certainly displays a similar visual style to Primer, and the same sense of foreboding.
Upstream Color is part of Sundance 2013's festival line-up, which hopefully means we'll all get to find out the answers to those questions before long. As soon as we get a UK release date, we'll be sure to share it with you.
