Sly Stallone 'confirms' Nic Cage for Expendables 3

Stallone in The Expendables.

In an extraordinary Facebook post, action man Sly Stallone says Nic Cage is destined to appear in The Expendables 3...

It's weird to think of unreconstructed men of action like Rocky Balboa or John Rambo using the internet, much less posting cute pictures of their dogs on Facebook, but then the actor behind those personas has long been a chap of many talents.

Having successfully wrangled an entire generation of fellow action stars into one theatre of war in this year's Expendables 2, Stallone has taken to Facebook to talk about a third movie. The Expendables 3, Sly reveals, will come with an added touch of Nic Cage madness - and he's also hoping to entice Harrison Ford and old Demolition Man sparring partner Wesley Snipes into the fold.

Stallone's post is so unique it would be a crime not to replicate it here in full, so here it is.

We are preparing the film with the same passion and commitment as the previous two. We have confirmed Nicolas Cage, a master actor who gives a veneer intellectual group. Hopefully we can realize to Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and Mickey Rourke. That is the great mission of the producer. We will continue with the same narrative scheme, the agility and the frenzy, which are inherent to the saga. What will definitely be the last? I can not guarantee. In principle it would be two deliveries, but the affection of the people encouraged us to work on a third. I guess as long as we amused ourselves by offering fun and people, we can continue playing 'The Expendables'. For now we are not as expendable as it should and as some critics want.

More news on The Expendables 3 - and the involvement of Cage, Ford and Snipes - as we get it.

they need to bring carl weathers (apollo creed) into the franchise. i'll take him over nic cage any day

They should get Kiefer Sutherland in it, and Pierce Brosnan playing an old British spy just as a cheeky nod to Bond like Connery did in the Rock!

Steven Segal, John Travolta, Mel Gibson and maybe even Kevin Bacon are possible choices but I'd love to see Cameron alumni Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton and Michael Beihn in these films but it would be good to get some classic action bad guys in on the action too - Ronny Cox, Michael Ironside, Gary Busey, Robert Patrick, Bill Sadler, Alan Rickman Andrew Robinson or Christopher Walken.

Stallone is drunk.

How about Craig Fairbrass just so he can say to my man SLY "Your just a Loudmouth Punk Slag!"

Stallone is dyslexic, as is well known. So well done for making fun of that.

Not so well known to me - that's news indeed.

Travolta? Really??? I'd pay double to see Walken as the bad guy, however!

Kurt Russell, Denzel Washington, Steven Seagal, Vinnie Jones, Clint Eastwood, Vin Diesel, Gerard Butler, Christian Bale, Liam Neeson, Antonio Banderas, Keanu Reeves, Sean Connery, Jean Reno, Will Smith, Samuel Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, hugo Weaving and even Sigourney Weaver could all be possibles along with others mentioned.. The series could go on as long as it makes the money to cover the stars.. ;)

Although I wasn't a great fan of the second one, it just seemed to be lacking... I still think it's great to get all of these action stars together, old and new, for our entertainment.. Seeing they seem to be running out of ideas in Hollywood..

John Malcovich and Linda Hamilton are a couple i certainly should not have forgotten... The Terminators terminator... ;)

When he gets good material he's actually not too bad. He was decent enough in Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Face/Off, Broken Arrow and Pulp Fiction.

Fair enough - I enjoyed Pulp Fiction, but mostly due to Sam Jackson and the terrific script. I just can't get Battlefield Earth out of my head.

So glad I never watched it for exactly that reason!!

I haven't seen the second one yet, but if they keep adding more and more names in with each film, they're gonna have to start killing people off reeeeeeeal soon. Although that wouldn't be such a bad thing, it would be quite refreshing to see an action film where a/the main hero dies.

The press release is a bad translation from Spanish hence it's incomprehensible nature. Apparently Cage is not on board, but that doesn't mean he won't be in future!

that body of text does not seem to reflect dyslexia, but rather english as a second language. Stallone, despite his onscreen persona is an articulate and erudite man. Whatever this text is, it was not written by Stallone
