Jane Levy on the Evil Dead remake

The star of the upcoming Evil Dead remake has been chatting about the content of the film

With the teaser trailer for Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead remake being released officially later today, we can finally get a proper first look at the movie. Although we did get an  image of Jane Levy, in full makeup peeking out from a cellar, released last week of course.

Levy recently spoke to Collider who asked her about the film, here's what she had to say:

“(Fans) can expect a lot of horror. It's a pretty violent film. There's lots and lots of blood. It's a beautiful movie – visually, actually, it looks so fucking cool", she said. "I saw a little bit of the end of the movie when I was in New Zealand and was like, 'whoa!' because Fede didn't let me watch playback – he's a big bully. It's a really cool looking movie. Really, really, really, cool.”

Levy then went on to acknowledge that the film is a hard R, borderline NC-17 movie, which will be music to many people's ears...

“That's us. Totally. I hate censorship, man. I really do. The thing is, we don't have any sex, which I love. It's not gory porn, which is often what makes a movie NC-17, which it doesn't need to be. But I always like when it's either a 'sex movie' or it's a 'violent movie'. I'm not a fan of the two. So if we're edging toward an NC-17, it's because of all the violence, and the gore, and the blood – not because of anything else.”

It certainly sounds promising, the only slight concern is that the focus seems to be very much on the gore aspect of the film. The greatest strength of the original trilogy was how well the humour was worked in alongside the visual madness and the gore. We'll wait and see if that's in there, too...

Not sure this will work. Would happily see Evil Dead 4 over this with an albeit older Ash doing his thing.
My concern here is that the rawness will not be present which was part of the fun of the franchise and if the protaganist role is reversed for a woman to take the lead I don't know how this will compare to the the character of Ash, who was 'in real life' a bit of a failure which crucially made the lead role that more entertaining.
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying you can't cast a woman in the lead role but against the back drop of the storyline (assuming it will be essentially the same) I don't see how they can show vunerability in the same way. I imagine it will be Ripleyesque or cliche girl vunerability wins in the end etc as is the case in most horror films.
Happy to be proved wrong here though and be interesting to see what they do with it.

Can someone please tell me all she said, because when Jane Levy says "...sex, which I love" then I lose all concentration. :-p

How is she crowned ash if she is posses through out the film?

Something about reading Levy's quotes in a thick russian accent makes this article so much more entertaining...

The original evil dead never had humour in it, it only manifested in the second and third. The remake is sticking to that idea.
