Michael Bay responds to leaked Ninja Turtles script

Michael Bay has responded to the overwhelming criticism of the leaked script for his forthcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot...

You may remember earlier on in the year, when it was announced that there would be some 'differences' to the back story of the Turtles in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, that the news didn't exactly go down well. It led to the film's producer, Michael Bay, taking to his website to post the following words:

“Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.”

Of course, this did little to apease fans, with many still suspicious as to just what Bay and his creative team were up to. And the touchpaper was lit again over the past week, as a leaked early draft of the film's script seemingly confirmed many people's fears. Once more, though, Michael Bay has taken to his website to try and calm things down.

He said that "The leaked script for Ninja Turtles that different sites continue to comment on was written well before I, or anyone at Platinum Dunes, was involved with the project. That script saw the shredder a long time ago. This is tired, old news - wait for the movie!"

The leaked script was apparently dated January 2012, and while suspicions will continue to abound, it's not actually unreasonable what Michael Bay is asking. It's an old draft script, that much was clear, and there does seem to be one or two instances of late of judging a film based on a screenplay that leaked alone. We say that with the same alarm bells blaring as your good selves, but wait and see does seem to be a decent approach.

More on the film as we get it...

Odds are if fans were acting 'chilled' about all these leaked details we have heard from the Bay Ninja Turtles film that would've been the script that had been filmed!
Michael Bay admitted that the script is from the production (so we know it's not a fake) but then says it was before his involvement in the film, which would make no sense given the dating of the script along with the fact that before his team got involved in the film in 2010 the plan was to make a sequel to TMNT not reboot the franchise.
Plus the more fans complain about this script, the more likely it is they will make improvements to the script making it closer to the Turtle's film desired by fans.
Michael Bay has given fans very little to be re-assured by with this project, if continued critiques about certain aspects of the production mean we get a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film instead of a Ninja Turtles film starring alien turtles that can only be seen as a positive.
If fans had been silent it's not too hard to imagine this is the script which would have been filmed, it's dated January which suggests it was not simply a long abandoned draft...with any luck though they will have completely while the production is delayed!

But Michael Bay is involved, how can we remain 'chilled'?

Oh god, do not disregard the canon of the TMNT! What next, wll he change the colours of the Power Rangers?

Look at the Trandformers movies and tell me the opinion of fans means anything to Bay.

The problem is he knows how to make these projects appeal to a much wider audience of people who are not fans and is more likely to trust his own judgement than listen to pleading screams of those who care about the characters he's about to butcher.

Money talks. Mmhmm. Money talks.

Trusting in Bay is like trusting in it to be a sunny day on a bank holiday.
The guy has proven he doesn't give a crap about quality, as long as it makes a lot of money, in countless other remakes and the Transformers movies. If this were any other director, I could probably say okay guys chill out, but this is Bay. He's obviously crapping it because the script they were working on wasn't well received and this will make him less money.

heh...."saw the shredder"...heh

Right Mr. Bay. I really believe. No really, I really do.

Well seeing how their colors change every season...

I still don't understad why Hollywood buys the rights to franchises who have million of fans, only to make a movie that is nothing like the franchise in the first place. Why do they hate us so much!! :(
This TMNT story will turn out the same way Dragon Ball Evolution did, it will not be a Turtles movie.

That was surprisingly subtle for Mr Bay, I wonder if that pun was intended...

Unlikely he would be lying, (unless he intends to completely change the script) as all will become clear when (or if) it releases. If it in fact stays the same, or mildly similar, he will be found out quickly as a lier so he knows that and wouldn't deny its credibility if it was true.

Surprisingly subtle? You're giving Michael Bay too much credit in assuming that he knows who the Shredder is.. Given the other franchises that he's worked on I presume that he's done absolutely no research..

There was a certain degree of sarcasm to that post. :) Oh, and not to be rude since I might be taking your post a bit too seriously/literally, but saying he doesn't know the Shredder character by name is really dumb. No matter what you think of his Transformers films, you can't deny that he included (most of) the main characters at one point or another. The appearance/personality/style of these characters is another thing altogether, of course...
