Will Ferrell and Steve Carell to star in Swear To God
Justin Theroux is set to direct Will Ferrell and Steve Carell in a buddy comedy called Swear To God...
Justin Theroux’s a man of many talents. He’s an actor (look out for him in a great, sleazy role in American Psycho, and as the villain Leezar in Your Highness), a scriptwriter (Tropic Thunder was his), and director (Dedication was his 2007 feature debut).
According to sources in Hollywood land, Theroux’s now set to direct a comedy that will see Will Ferrell and Steve Carell star together for the first time in years. The film’s called Swear To God, which Theroux will rewrite from a script originally created by Due Date writers Alan Cohen and Alan Freedland. It’s best described as a buddy religious comedy, in which a hedge fund manager’s life is radically altered when he thinks he catches a glimpse of the almighty himself.
The script was originally purchased last year, at which point Adam McKay was rumoured to be the director. Theroux’s replaced him, but Will Ferrell, who was attached from the very beginning, is still on board.
We’ll have to wait a while to see the finished product, though, since production on Swear To God won’t begin until next July; it’s thought Ferrell and Carell will finish work on Anchorman: The Legend Continues, currently scheduled to start filming in March 2013, with a 2014 release.
