Looper: new international trailer

Trailer Ryan Lambie 28 Jun 2012 - 10:35
Looper

It stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis, and it could be one of the best sci-fi movies of the year. Here’s the latest trailer for Looper…

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS QUITE A SPOILER-Y TRAILER - WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK

“This is my life now. You’ve had yours already.”

We’ve been tracking the progress of director Rian Johnson’s Looper for some time now. Johnson, of course, is the chap behind Brick and The Brothers Bloom, and Looper marks his first foray into sci-fi – and he’s brought a fantastic cast along with him; there’s Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt and Jeff Daniels among the cast.

And then there’s that high-concept premise: Mr Gordon-Levitt stars as Joseph Simmons, who’s paid to kill people sent from the future by the mob – no questions asked. One day, his 55-year-old self (Willis) emerges from the time tunnel, and following a brief struggle, manages to escape. What follows is a cat-and-mouse game of death between Simmons and his older self, as well as a group of assassins named Gat Men.

All of this is tidily explained in the international trailer below, which is far more coherent than the promos we’ve seen before. It looks like exciting stuff, though we’re a little bemused by the facial appliances and contact lenses poor old Gordon-Levitt has to wear…

Looper’s out on the 28th September.
