Charlize Theron on Mad Max: Fury Road
The long awaited reboot of the Mad Max franchise finally looks set to go ahead and Theron shares here excitement.
Things must be pretty busy for Charlize Theron at the moment, with two films hitting UK cinemas at the same time and having to publicise them both. The films in question are Prometheus and Snow White and the Huntsman, and whilst undertaking promotional duties for them, she's found a bit of time to natter about the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road. That's the movie in which she’ll star opposite Tom Hardy, who will be replacing Mel Gibson in the title role for what could potentially be another trilogy.
Needless to say it sounds as though Theron is looking forward to getting started: "I'm very excited about it; I'm fucking dying! It's been three years; it’s time to skin this cat already!", she told Empire. "I'm scared shitless, it's a really challenging piece of material. It's not the original Mad Max, it's the revamped Mad Max. The whole thing is just very, very exciting."
One of the reasons for the delay was the original shooting location experiencing heavy rains which turned the barren land into a picturesque area full of flowers, which is obviously not suitable for a Mad Max movie. Here’s what Theron had to say about the situation: "It was a huge problem, the desert never recovered. Well, it did recover in a beautiful way, just not the way we needed!"
This is one that we’ll keep everything crossed for. Here's hoping it captures the magic of the first two Mad Max movies complete with the same level of practical stunt madness. More on the film as we get it.

Lets hope she has a more interesting character (with more to do) than she does in Prometheus.
It's a nice cast, to say the least. Charlize Theron is more talented than people give her credit for and Tom Hardy is always fun to watch; he made Star Trek Insurrection watchable, in my opinion.
Star Trek: Nemesis maybe? :)
I was so disappointed she got offed. I would have loved her and shaw to have survived together and had to find a way to co-operate.
Okay consider my interest slightly piqued now that I know Theron is playing opposite Hardy.
Those are two Bad-Ass (with intentional capitals) actors.
Yeah, your right. Insurrection was that one with the immortal Aliens - although you can see why I was a bit confused as Insurrection and Nemesis are similar titles that both repreasent conflict of some sort and they were released one after the other. It is Star Trek's fault really for not giving us more imaginative titles. :)
Thanks mate,.,,you should have said spoiler warning
Damn. Sorry! I hate that being done to me too will edit now so no-one else is affected.
Is it just me, or is Mad Max 2 the only decent film in the entire franchise? 3 had the budget, but it also had Master Blaster and Tina bloody Turner! 1 just doesn't stand the test of time - so I say bring it on!
I completely anticipate production beginning on this movie as eagerly as Charlize because the mighty, singular Brendan McCarthy,2000ad contributor and Milligan collaborator is supposed to have worked with George Miller on the screenplay as well as the production concepts.Sooner filming starts the better considering the abortion of the Justice League movie he was working on.Excited that Charlize is so enthusiastic about more science fiction after Prometheus and Aeon Flux but i suspect she's looking forward to playing alongside Tom Hardy.
i liked all three of the original trilogy, but each for very different reasons. like the alien franchise, each movie in the mad max trilogy is a different kind of film. the first one was meant to be more of a serious film and was made for about three dollars, it is a fascinating, if not entirely successful movie--in fact, it is so bizarre in the idiosyncratic way it was written that i always feel a bit flabbergasted whenever i see it. the second film wrote the bible for a generation of b-grade post apocalyptic drive and kill action movies. the third was a richer template with an expanded worldview, and lighter more redemptive tone. watching all three back to back, they don't really feel like a trilogy, but i find them each satisfying to watch
