Tom Cruise is the latest in a long line of stars attached to Clint Eastwood’s remake of A Star is Born

Clint Eastwood has been looking to remake A Star is Born for some time now, and ever since he has been attached, he has stated that his leading lady of choice would be Beyonce Knowles.

Still, he has struggled to find his leading man, with the likes of Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, Will Smith, Leonardo DiCaprio and Eminem all being attached and dropping out at some point. His problems might just be resolved, though, as Tom Cruise is the latest star attached to the role, and would certainly make an interesting choice for leading man.

Cruise would play the role of a man who acts as a mentor and love interest to Knowles’ rising star, and as her career takes off, his declines further. It would be another film on a very packed slate for Cruise, but you can imagine that the prospect of working with Eastwood could make this project a priority for him. He's already belting a tune or two later this year, of course, in the upcoming Rock Of Ages.

The 1937 version of A Star Is Born won an Oscar at the 1938 Academy Awards. The Judy Garland-headlined version was nominated for six Oscars in 1955, meanwhile, and the 1976 take starring Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand was nominated for four awards and won one. Might Clint be having to clear some more space on above his fireplace, then, if he gets his take on the material off the ground?
