Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan are likely to be recruited once more, as a sequel to The Karate Kid remake moves one step closer…

Appreciating it’s a film that not too many of us were interested in when it was announced, the remake of The Karate Kid, starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan, actually turned out really quite well (if long). It also made a lot of money, which makes the confirmation of a sequel to it no surprise at all.

Variety reports that Columbia Picture has hired Zak Penn (whose most recent work was the TV show, Alphas) to put together a screenplay for the movie, and the plan is for both Chan and Smith to return for the follow-up.

Director Harald Zwart is a fair bet to step back behind the camera, too, given that he expressed interest in the project back in 2010, just after the first film hit big.

Here’s the story at Variety.
