Join the campaign: let's get The Muppets hosting the 2012 Oscars
As Eddie Murphy drops out of hosting the Oscars, common sense should now prevail: it's surely time to play the music, it's time to light the lights...
Following Brett Ratner's departure from producing the 2012 Oscar show, the somewhat inevitable news has now come in that Eddie Murphy has pulled out of hosting the show. It all sounds quite amicable, but given that Murphy was Ratner's choice, it's no surprise that he's walked away from the job.
This, friends, presents us with a once-in-a-lifetime moment. 2012 should be the year that The Muppets, finally, host the Oscars. How many of you, who haven't watched the Oscars for years, would be up for that?
Imagine the possibilities. Fozzie hosting. Waldorf and Statler on the red carpet. The Swedish Chef presenting the gong for Best Foreign Language film. Miss Piggy presenting Best Actress. Rowlf The Dog in the orchestra pit.
This could be the best Oscars ever.
The first logical thing to do, after you've written to your elected representatives, is to follow the Twitter account @MuppetOscars. And then spread the word. If you're not on Twitter, just pop a note of support in the comments, or on Facebook.
Let's make the 2012 Oscars the best ever. Let them start with the magical words "It's time to play the music..."
This is our moment. This is where we try and seize back the Academy Awards. Each and every one of you has a part to play. Spread the word. It's Muppet time...
Follow Den Of Geek on Twitter right here. And be our Facebook chum here. But just this once, we'd rather you followed someone else: @MuppetOscars...
