Kiefer Sutherland in 24

Jack Bauer seems to have taken a couple of steps towards the big screen. Here's the latest from Kiefer Sutherland on the 24 movie...

It’s been some time now since 24 ground to a halt on the small screen, and since then, there’s been occasional chatter of a big screen outing for Jack Bauer.

The most ludicrous suggestion was a 24/Die Hard crossover, where John McClane and Jack Bauer would be fighting side by side. The name of this rumoured crossover? Die Hard 24/7. Perhaps it’s best that this one didn’t come to pass.

However, a 24 movie is getting much closer to happening, it seems. The latest update has come from Kiefer Sutherland himself, in an interview with The Telegraph.

He told the paper that “We are coming very close to having a finished script. That’s been the most difficult thing. You have to remember that we have 24 hours to explain the stories in 24 and so trying to condense that into a two-hour film version has been a real shift in gear for us.”

He added that “We were originally trying to make it too big and put too much into it – but once we relaxed, we found out how to tell that story. So yes we definitely do plan on making the film.”

That’s still some way away from a green light, but at least it sounds like some progress is being made. Although where Jack Bauer could go on the big screen that he hasn’t brought disaster and mayhem to before remains to be seen.

Perhaps they should do a Kim Bauer movie instead?
