Noomi Rapace and Jessica Chastain to star in Universal’s sci-fi movie, Horizons?
Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski’s working on sci-fi movie, Horizons. And he’s currently assembling a great female cast to appear alongside Tom Cruise...
Whatever you made of Tron: Legacy, I’m sure you’ll agree that the movie at least demonstrated director Joseph Kosinski’s eye for stylish design and intricate special effects.
For the last few months, Kosinski’s been quietly putting together another sci-fi project, this time for Universal. Tom Cruise is the big name attached to it, even though the movie itself doesn’t appear to have a title - it was called Oblivion for a while, but has now reverted back to its working appellation, Horizons.
The story, meanwhile, involves a post-apocalyptic Earth, in which aliens dominate the land and humans are forced to live among the clouds. Cruise will play a character called Jack, whose job is to maintain the droids that defend the humans from the aliens, but one day finds a crashed pod with an enigmatic lady lying inside.
According to Variety, Kosinski is currently putting together a starry female cast to work alongside Cruise, which includes Noomi Rapace (the star of the original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and soon to appear in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus), Jessica Chastain (who was superb in Tree Of Life), Brit Marling (who’ll we’ll soon see in the intriguing indie sci-fi flick, Another Earth), and Olga Kurylenko (Centurion, Quantum Of Solace). It’s not yet clear which will play the enigmatic pod lady, nor has it been confirmed for definite that these are the actresses who'll appear in the finished film.
It’s an intriguing-sounding film, and Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3) putting the finishing touches to the script, we’re hoping it’ll be dramatically interesting, as well as visually stylish.
Kosinski hopes to have Horizons finished by 2013.
