We’re not looking to tempt fate in any way here, but it looks like Guillermo del Toro may finally have a film to direct.

The director has seen his last two projects, The Hobbit and At The Mountains Of Madness, fall through in different ways for him. And, as things stand, the last film he directed was Hellboy II, a year or two back. Now? Warner Bros has confirmed his next film, Pacific Rim, and has lined it up as one of its summer blockbusters of 2013.

Pacific Rim is a movie set in the future, with massive creatures threatening to destroy the planet. As such, the residents of Earth have to come together to try and see them off. In the hands of someone like Roland Emmerich, we'd know what to expect here. In the hands of del Toro? We're suspecting we might get something a bit special.

Idris Elba has been cast in the lead role in the film, and Charlie Hunnam is on board, too. Production, according to Deadline, is set to begin this coming November, and the film itself will then be released on July 12th 2013. That suggests a lot of post-production effects work might just be necessary.

Good to have you back, Mr del Toro. Touch wood...
