Robert Pattinson linked with Akira remake
Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake and Chris Pine are amongst the latest names to be linked with the live action take on Akira…
Yesterday, we were nattering about Robert Pattinson being linked with playing the title role in the reboot of the Daredevil franchise, a rumour that was denied by the actor. However, we wonder if there may be a little more fire to the smoke with this latest suggestion.
Deadline is reporting that the Twilight actor is on a shortlist of actors for the role of Tetsuo in the live action remake of Akira, along with Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy. Given that Garfield and McAvoy both have franchise commitments (Spider-Man and X-Men, respectively), we can't help but wonder if Pattinson is the front runner here. After all, he's all but done on the Twilight movies, and likely to be hunting for a new project.
For the role of Kaneda, meanwhile, the shortlist features Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix.
Akira is set to go before the cameras in August, with the screenplay having just being rewritten by Harry Potter screenwriter, Steve Kloves. And Albert Hughes is directing the movie. The plan is to make two films out of the Katsuhiro Otomo's original manga.
Once the casting is confirmed (and it'd be interesting to have some different names on a Hollywood shortlist for once), we'll bring you the news...
