Keanu Reeves to star in Speed 3?
Simon Brew
Is it time to get the bus/boat/rocket revved up for a new Speed movie? Quite possibly...
Published on Dec 2, 2008
A fascinating snippet has popped up on AintItCool this morning, as it seems that long-standing rumours of a third Speed movie may well be true – and what’s more, Keanu Reeves’ character may well be returning.
The original Speed, of course, is a bit of an action movie classic, and not only helped Keanu Reeves’ career soar, but also marked Jan De Bont as a director to, er, keep an eye on. Reeves passed on the risible sequel, Speed 2: Cruise Control, although Jan De Bont stayed on board, as did Sandra Bullock. And that was widely assumed to have killed the franchise stone dead.
But perhaps not. The AintItCool story this morning suggests that a new script treatment is doing the rounds, and includes Jack Traven, who Reeves played in the first film. And we’re kind of torn on this. Speed hasn’t aged as well as a Die Hard, but it’s still at its best a blistering action picture, even if the ending is a little bit weak. It’s also likely to be a fishing trip where Fox is concerned to try and lure Reeves back to the franchise, as the actor himself has given no indication that he’s interested.
The story is here.
Don’t forget though that Speed 3 has already been made. Check this clip out if you don’t believe us…
