What happened when a journalist asked M Night Shyamalan the big question?

M Night Shyamalan

Many think that M Night Shyamalan has lost the magic that once made him such an interesting filmmaker. And one Mexican journalist has just asked him about it…

"It's a fascinating thing that you'd even characterise my whole career like that."

As The Last Airbender continues its roll out across the world, the press junket circus has moved on to Mexico, where M Night Shyamalan faced the question that, to be fair, many of us had been wondering. Because she asked the writer-director basically what had happened, and Shyamalan, to be fair to him, answered the question (although we're not quite sure about the man clapping madly next to him).

He didn't answer it properly, but he did at least give a response to it. To be fair to her, too, it wasn't asked in an aggressive way, instead being a constructively posed query.

Given how dull and anodyne most movie press conferences generally are, it's interesting that such a - let's face it - valid question was put forward.

Here's the footage of the press conference, including Shyamalan's response to the question...
