Disney update: Lion King 3D, Roger Rabbit 2, Beauty and the Beast 3D, Snow Queen dead?
Producer Don Hahn has been talking about Roger Rabbit 2, Beauty And The Beast and The Lion King in 3D, and the probable end of The Snow Queen project…
We had the pleasure of meeting up with Beauty And The Beast/Nightmare Before Christmas/The Lion King producer Don Hahn this week, as he stopped by in London ahead of meeting up with Tim Burton to talk about the stop motion movie Frankenweenie. The fine folks at Empire have been quicker off the mark in getting online some of what Hahn was talking about, but here's the digest of what he had to say.
* Firstly, it does, indeed, look as if the plan to revive The Snow Queen is dead, or at least very much on the back burner. While The Princess And The Frog made a solid amount of money, it didn't seem to be enough to persuade The Mouse House to pull one of its riskier hand-drawn projects back off the shelf. Still, work continues on the hand-drawn project Winnie The Pooh, which Hahn is not involved with.
* Hahn confirmed that he's just finished work on a 3D overhaul of Beauty And The Beast. He wasn't sure when it would be released, although he said it was likely to be in 2011.
* Empire also discovered that he's next going to look at doing a 3D version of The Lion King. "I'm actually trying to work out a 3D conversion of The Lion King. I'll be doing that when I go back to the States in a couple of weeks," he told them.
* He also revealed a little news on Who Framed Roger Rabbit 2, suggesting that "if you're a fan, pretty soon you're going to be very, very, very happy."
We also spoke to him at length about Beauty And The Beast, an interview we'll run closer to the release of the film on Blu-ray towards the end of the year. In the meantime, here's the article over at Empire.
We'll also let you know when Hahn's fascinating-looking documentary, Waking Sleeping Beauty (about the revival of Disney animation from the mid-80s through to The Lion King), will be getting its UK release.
